Mount Ommaney Clare's Law Roundtable

Mount Ommaney Clare's Law Roundtable

Date: Tue. 11 Aug, 2015 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Duration: 1 Hour

Tarnya Smith, Member for Mount Ommaney, is holding a round table to discuss Clare's Law on Tuesday 11 August at the Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre.

Clare's Law, as it is colloquially known in the United Kingdom, is a disclosure scheme designed to protect people from domestic violence abuse introduced in 2014. The Queensland Opposition believes there is merit to such a scheme being introduced in Queensland.

In May 2015, the State Opposition released an exposure draft Bill for an Act to provide for the disclosure of convictions relating to violence or sexual offences. The consultation paper offers a starting point for discussion. It seeks to outline the proposed scheme as modelled on Clare's Law in the United Kingdom and poses questions for which feedback is sought.

Anyone who has an interest in this important issue is invited to have a say on the development of the scheme. Your views are important and will inform how to best to deliver a scheme that serves to protect the individuals and families whose safety can be maximised by disclosing behaviour which may threaten their safety.

Tracy Davis, Shadow Minister for Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, will be present to discuss the Queensland Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Disclosure Scheme.

Where: Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre, 38 Thallon St Sherwood

When: Tuesday 11 August - 2:30pm to 3:30pm.

If you would like to attend please RSVP To the Mount Ommaney Electorate Office by Friday 7 August.
